Die Fachschaft Physik und Biophysik sieht den Polizeieinsatz, der in Verbindung mit dem Protestcamp am Campus Westend vom 20.-26.05. stattfand, als unverhältnismäßig an. Die Menge an Einsatzkräften überschritt deutlich das notwendige Maß zum Schutz der Studierenden vor eventuellen Ausschreitungen.
Zudem verurteilen wir die Stationierung von Einsatzkräften innerhalb von Universitätsgebäuden, wie es am Institut für Humangeographie umgesetzt wurde, insbesondere wenn dies zur Überwachung und Einschüchterung von Studierenden geschieht.
Wir teilen in Hinsicht auf die Rolle unserer Universität für öffentlichen und kontroversen Diskurs die Auffassung des Forums Humangeographie der Fachschaft Geographie:
In einer pluralistischen und demokratischen Gesellschaft ist es Aufgabe und Notwendigkeit der Universitäten, Raum für offenen politischen Diskurs und kritischen Meinungsaustausch zu bieten. Die Universität selbst schmückt sich mit dem Leitbild: „Grundlage unseres Denkens und Handelns ist die Wertschätzung von Offenheit und Vielfalt. Daher sucht die Bürgeruniversität den Dialog mit allen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen.“
Dieses Leitbild verrät die Universität jedoch selbst, indem sie ihre eigene Studierendenschaft stillschweigend überwachen lässt, sie in ihrer Versammlungsfreiheit einschüchtert und beschränkt und damit ein Klima des Misstrauens und der Angst schafft.

Public statement by the Student Council for Physics and Biophysics of the Goethe University Frankfurt in regards to the deployment of police within Campus Westend.
The Student Council for Physics and Biophysics considers the deployment of police forces within Campus Westend in response to the protest camp organized between the 20th and 26th of May 2024 to be disproportionate. The number of police officers stationed in Campus grounds significantly exceeded that necessary for the protection of students in the event of a commotion.
Additionally, we condemn the deployment of any operational task force within university buildings, particularly for the purpose of surveillance and intimidation of the student body, as it was done within the premises of the Institute for Human Geography.
We concur with the views expressed by the Forum of Human Geography of the Student Council for Geography in regards to the role of our university within public discourse and contentious debate:
In a diverse and democratic society, it is both expected and necessary for universities to offer space for open political discourse and debate. The university itself proudly announces in its mission statement: “Our thinking and action are based on our appreciation of openness and diversity. That is why the Citizens’ University seeks to engage in a dialogue with all social Groups.”
The University betrays this very mission statement, when it tacitly allows its student body to be surveilled and restricts its students freedom of assembly through means of intimidation, creating an atmosphere where mistrust and fear will inevitably prevail.
